I've been haunted by the song for quite some time now. It’s one of my favorite 'songs' off 'Reminder'. I absolutely love that haunting build up going into one big 'the end of the world' sound where I can almost feel the world coming apart in my mind.
Anyway, some time ago I actually had a dream about this song.
The dream itself wasn't all that extraordinary (not in the way Jerome dreamt and based some of the tracks) but still it had a strange scary haunted feeling to it, that in some even more strange way loved every second of.
Most of the NIN fans should remember the ‘We’re in this together’ video. Well, the dream looked a lot like that. I was in a high school (the American type.. you know big hallway, lots of lockers, lots of people, definitely not like the school I’m currently going to in Holland) I was standing in the hallway but couldn’t hear the noise from all the people. It was completely quiet and all I could hear was the beginning of ‘Release’. As the build-up progressed the people started to fade one by one.
I started to run towards the sound (I could clearly hear it coming from a direction) and while I ran through the maze of hallways almost everybody had disappeared and the sound was getting louder and more aggressive as I came closer to the source of the sound (exactly as like the progression of the song)
Finally during the ending of the song, I found the hallway that led me to the source of the sound. I was too late, as I opened the door all I could hear was the final bits of ‘noise’ before the song completely ended.
I entered what looked like a gym court set up to play a concert with a stage, instruments plugged in and working, there were even some flyers and other garbage on the floor. where the audience was standing. Suddenly everything was over, like everybody had just vanished or left the second I came in. I could only see it for less then a second, before i woke up immediately the moment the song ended. I woke up breathing very hard, a very fast hart rate and with sweat all over my face. Even my hair was all wet from the sweat. It almost felt like I was having a fever or something.
Somehow it personally reminded me of that particular NIN video I mentioned earlier. In it Reznor was running after all those people, and in the end everyone suddenly had vanished and all that was left was their clothing on the ground (if my mind serves me well, I haven't seen the video in over a year.) but that could just be me.
