to hear this amazing cd. and wow it really is amazing. This first cd for jerome definately shows his individual artistic talent , setting him apart for NIN. I ve been pretty busy lately but ive been meaning to get on hear to tell you all what i thought about the album but i finally get a chance today. i got the cd on moday and have listened it through i think three times , so im starting to get a feel for the album and am relating to alot of the songs. The tracks are hauntingly sad but great at the same time. there are layers upon layers of sounds on some of these songs it gets intoxicateing listening to them. As i listen i sometimes try to make out all the different instruments being used and there really is alot going on. but this really is some amzing beautiful work( "fuck stop saying amazing"). for the first listen i did wait till night time , and had like a couple glasses of wine laying down in my bed listening. It was great though and very relaxing. The only problem i had upon the first listen was adjusting to the vocals but after a couple more listens i couldnt imagine anyone else singing on these songs , she fits perfectly with the project.

thanks for sharing dave. I think most here will agree with your analysis. now, we just need concert dates to hear/see the music played live!

( "fuck stop saying amazing"). But that word describes it perfectly. You've echoed the sentiments of a lot of people here, myself included. I've got to sit down and add my bit to the review thread one of these days! Keep listening, it just gets better and better!

But, really it is an amazing album. This is saddly the first time I've gotten a chance to hear Claudia sing. I have to admit --and I hope no body hurts me -- that her voice kind of reminds me of Christina Amphlett of the Divinyls, in it's raspiness. I love it, though. And, no, in no way does nearLY remind me of the Divinyls musically. Not at all.

I like Christina Amphlett's voice (should I be embarrassed?).
My hero when I was a little girl was Debbie Harry with Stevie Nicks being a close second..so.......I'm into voices that sound different.
also into strong women like them for role models (DH & SN in particular).
********** didn't mean to get off topic. ********** when everyone gets the maxi-single, I want to have a discussion about it..got mine last night..and I will say this...I don't think anything out of that collection of music could disappoint me. It's all so beautiful!

Late welcome from me, dave. I'm glad you like reminder. It's really an amazing album, isn't it? It may take several listening before you really get into, but you discover something new every time you do. Your favorite track may change time to time, but in the end you just want to listened to from the beginning to the end in one sitting. Reminder is that kind of album, I guess. It's so rare to encounter such a record. Indeed, JD is an amazing artist...

good god, i got my copy on my bday but finally today had time to listen ... ...i must say .. i am very critical and this wont sound positive, but me and my friend (who is 52 and very into music, also is on some special music college in London) we both dont like the singers voice ... it may fit with the music, but i just do not like it. I realized i am more into the instrumentals, which are more abstract. As i am also doing Videos i realized it would be a good record and perfect music for a visualisation (in my head or opinion). Which is very positive. I need to see pictures when i listen to songs, if that does not happen: dust bin. ... Apart from that i had to stop listening it at track 8 or so cause i lost nerve with it ... maybe the wrong mood to listen to it. ... don't know ... cant say. Me and my friend from London will give it a second listen ... this album is art and i would be interested in seeing how it works live. (defenitely but i doubt they are coming down to europe). But this record does not, and wont mean the world to me, like other songs or artists do.

i understand marijke... i used to hate the band rush, just because of geddy lee's voice...but the music just couldn't be denied! now i'm to the point where it wouldn't sound right with anyone else singing...and infact i like it now...but i can see at first how it would be grating to some tastes... all i'm trying to say is you turned it off before the best song (which is #11, tributary) give it some more shots...with the right environment you will see it's magic!

Marijke, I know what you mean. I did have the same "problem" with Claudia's voice. It takes a few listens before you can really adjust to it or really have an opinion about it, I think. Now I can't really think of anyone else singing these songs.
I do have a problem with the alternate version of Mary Vincent (voice and the way it's played). But I think I should save/put that in the maxi-single review...

I was thrown initially by Claudia's voice, but after listening to straight to nowhere (the sample we had for quite some time prior to the release) repeatedly, I grew found of it. I'm into singers with "different" sounding voices though.
I love this album. I can't imagine not having it in my life.
Everyone is different though...and I stated on a thread somewhere (maybe the maxi-single review) that this music is NOT for everyone, but there are many that will love it and I'm so happy we have it available to us.

Marjike - give it time, Claudia will grow on you and in a good way (not like fungus ). Her voice is very different from what is traditionally thought of as a "good" voice. Personally, any issue that I have with her performance is technical and comes from many years of vocal coaching with one instructor. I was taught certain prejudices that I just can't get out of my head.
