nearLY is unique in my record collection in that it comes with a suggestion as to the best time and way to listen to it. People have suggested that maybe driving, for example, isn't a good activity to follow when listening...but I thought it would be cool to hear people's suggestions for where to listen...
For me, I listened in the dark at night to start with...since then:
In the bath, with one candle burning. Lying in the park watching the sunrise and later the same day lying in the park watching the sunset...
I hope to be able to listen to nearLY at dusk, taking one of the rowboats out from my mum's neighbour just floating in the middle of this (small) lake near where she lives, I'd like to listen sitting on the beach with the waves in the background...
Most of all, right now, I'd like to hear this music played live...but that is another thread...
Any suggestions, folks?

Quite often I find myself so busy that taking time to stop, relax and just listen to a CD start to finish is a luxury. Working long hours make the watching of sunrise and sunset a little hard for me, although it sounds magic..
I defied Mr Dillon's instructions (for night time listening...) and had nearLY blasting on my Ipod while charging around the supermarket. It definitely made the me feel more relaxed in the Que at the checkouts. I was pleased the old lady couldn't find her card, it gave me time to stand gaze into nothing and truly listen to Mary Vincent...
I love the idea of floating in the lake, that would just be so peaceful and really allow you to relax and take the music in.
I think the best place to listen is were ever you can, just listen it is worth it!

Not sure about the supermarket - I listen to the Clash in the supermarket...can't remember why...
Anyways, I have had a strange thought about this topic, and for some reason I have imagined sitting in a field or meadow with a bunch of friends in the middle of nowhere with huge speakers and the volume cranked up...strangely it is still quite light but the sun is getting lower in the sky...then it occured to me...festival...that would be an amazing experience...

I love your idea of listening to nearLY while in a boat, Storm. I'd love to try to listen to it outdoors during the evening, it's been strangely warm in SF these days! Lately, whenever I listen to the album, it's on my iPod while I'm about to fall asleep. As a whole, this album's got a very lulling feel. I can't really imagine listening to it with a group of people unless we're all meditating on it. To me it's kind of a solitary experience.

i love to listen to it somewhere in the dark, lying on my bed or sofa... no one else around me... my thoughts drifting away... sinking into the music... enjoying it's lulling, mellow mood. i'm anticipating spring and summertime to experience nearly in a warm gentle breeze... i love the sea... so i like the boat idea, too. and it's definitely for solitary experience only... i don't want to share these moments with anybody!

Best place. Laying on the roof of my house, under the night sky, looking straight up. All you can see is infinite blackness sprinkled with white dots. Makes for great ambiance.

i love listen to it when it's snowing , and it's snowing juste right now in my town, i'm listening to "blackwing" with my window open, it's quiet and beautiful . I listen to it in my bath too . With just the light of a little candle.

For me, I'd have to say in my room, in the car at night, or outside in my neighborhood at night.

The first time I listened to it, I turned off the light in my room, lit a candle and lied down on my bed... and pushed PLAY... And it was so fantastic. So whenever I'm thinking about having " a real listen" to the record, I usually do that... nearLY is also, like Manu mentioned, extremely beautiful listening to when it's snowing outside... <3 And I absolutely LOVE the idea of sitting nearby a lake in the early summer(around June), watching the sunrise while it's still a bit chilly outside, so it's foggy... I totally have to do that(have to wait a couple of months, hehe) However... Since I heard nearLY for the first time, I have for some reason connected the music to Copenhagen(the capital of Denmark)... So when I was there a week ago, I finally made my thoughts reality and sat down and looked at the river and a place called Amager and listened to Prins Hendrik. It has never sounded as beautiful as it did then. Just thinking about it makes me smile :-)

The best way to listen to this record is through headphones. You can catch so much more with headphones on. When we had the listening party, I discovered a few new things, especially because we were all listening and discussing the record. The first time I listened to the album was also through headphones.
It's still cold over here and it suits the record well, I think. I agree with Manu, when it was snowing here, Blackwing was just perfect! As was the rest of the album... I'm wondering how it would feel when you listen to this album in summer. I'd definately would like to try what sapphire did, well...for me it would just be laying in the grass and watching the stars...would it be the same feeling as I have now, in winter?

I almost always listen either before falling asleep or when I first wake up in the morning before the sun is up and my alarm goes off. I tried listening to it during the day just once but it simply didn't feel right. I prefer to fall asleep to it. I put my earbuds in and put my iPod on repeat. There's a soothing quality that is so calming. In fact, I did just that last night and woke up this morning with it still on. I love the idea of listening to it on the water. Thunderstorms are also good, we've already had one night of storms this year and I had this on through most of it.
